A Lot of Bull

“You can go running down the street anytime you want, but to run with bulls — that’s something that doesn’t come along very often,” explained Rob Dickens, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Great Bull Run. Inspired by the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, the event will allow people to voluntarily be chased by bulls in Richmond, Va., and Atlanta, Ga., with future events planned for Texas, Florida, California, Minnesota, Illinois and Pennsylvania. The events in Spain have been marked by injuries and deaths, but the U.S. version will be “quite different than the running of the bulls in Spain,” Dickens said, and they will include several additional safety features. So why bring this event to the U.S.? Dickens sees it as a natural evolution of extreme sports. “I think it’s just a progression where we are becoming more and more active as a society,” Dickens said. “There’s this fitness craze that started with running. I think this is just an extension of all that, but making it more interesting to the general public.” (MS/AP) ...Sometimes there’s a thin line between “craze” and “crazy.”
