A Series of Bad Choices

Authorities say James Edward Russell, 39, escaped from Washington’s Olympic Corrections Center, rather than serve out the remaining three years of his fourth prison sentence. That night, he knocked on the door of a cabin in the woods to ask to use the phone. The man renting the cabin happened to be an off-duty guard from the Olympic Corrections Center. Russell saw the man recognized his clothing as being an inmate’s, and he ran. Alerted by the guard’s sighting, deputies scouring the area were able to recapture the escapee. The Associated Press reported that Russell “was not available for comment.” (RC/AP) ...And probably won’t be for several more years now.
