Armed, Dangerous, and Expensive

The Canada Border Services Agency is being asked to explain why it spent C$143 million (US$143.3 million) training 1,568 border guards to bear firearms — more than C$91,000 per agent. The union representing CBSA officers argued the guns are needed to protect staff facing dangerous situations. “It’s insane,” retorts Kevin Gaudet of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. “The cost per agent is just so large it merits serious question.” Since being armed, officers have drawn their weapons 100 times, but they have only discharged a weapon once: to kill an injured moose. (MS/Welland Tribune) ...At that cost, they should be armed with silver bullets in case they meet a wounded werewolf.
