At Waste

Washington State Sen. Rosa Franklin thinks “negative labels” hurt kids’ chances for success. She thus has sponsored a bill to change the wording of 54 state laws that describe “poor children,” the “disadvantaged,” and those who are “at-risk” to something more positive. Her suggestion: “at hope”. An opposing lawmaker notes it will cost the state $3,500 just to print the bill, and plenty more if it passes and there is a need to change the laws’ wordings — money that could be used to actually help ...well... poor children.
