Battle Royale

It was pretty much a lock: Roy Brooks was surely going to win the election for Precinct 1 County Commissioner in Tarrant County, Texas. The question was, which one? The battle came down to incumbent Roy Charles Brooks, a man, and Roy LaVerne Brooks, a woman. Both are Democrats. “There will be a lot of confusion,” one voter predicted. “There may be some initial confusion about the names,” the male candidate said, but “There is absolutely no confusion about the record.” His opponent agreed: “I’m not worried about any confusion,” she said. “I never have been worried about any confusion.” The ballot included both candidate’s middle names. The incumbent — Roy Charles Brooks — won with 78 percent of the vote. (RC/KHOU Houston) ...Confusion is irrelevant. Voters always get the politicians they deserve.
