Boy Scouts Beware

Sandra Leann Bathke, 70, was behind on her rent and was about to be evicted. She asked her landlord’s son, Luke Even Weimert, 26, for a ride to the Elysian State Bank in Elysian, Minn., to get some money. Unfortunately, Bathke’s withdrawal was not quite legal, as she allegedly placed a bag on the counter, told the teller she had a gun, and asked her to give her all the money in the drawer. She then thanked the teller, went back to the car, and Weimert drove away — slowly because of the slippery roads, plus he had no idea what had just happened. He didn’t even know they were being followed by a witness until he parked in Bathke’s driveway, and an officer ordered them to the ground. As they were surrounded, Bathke told the man, “I’m so sorry, Luke.” Weimert’s car was easy to follow. “Robbing a bank with a Jaguar,” an investigator said, “kind of sticks out.” (MS/Minneapolis Star Tribune) ...As opposed to a little old lady robber with a young male getaway driver.
