Can’t Really Blame Her — Who Wouldn’t Do Anything Possible to Not Be Her?

Alicia Cruz, 31, blames addiction to meth for her legal problems, but she managed to avoid a lengthy prison term five years ago, and went through a drug addiction treatment program. “I just want to say that’s not me anymore,” she told a federal judge two years ago after running away from a halfway house. “I’m a different person now.” For running away, she was given a second short prison stint. But this year, she was back in court again: investigators say she stole the identities of at least 300 people to drain their bank accounts so she could buy drugs. So she’s back to prison again, this time for four years, plus five years of probation. (RC/Seattle Post-Intelligencer) ...The judge should have realized what “I’m a different person now” really meant.
