Cannonball Run

The Colorado Springs, Colo., police arrested John Winkler, 20, on two outstanding felony warrants. He was handcuffed behind his back and placed in the front seat of an unmarked squad car, and seatbelted in. As two officers escorted him to the county jail, they were driving on the freeway when Winkler suddenly popped his seatbelt off, opened the door, and jumped out. The car was moving about 60 mph. Amazingly, when Winkler stopped sliding and rolling he was able to get to his feet and start running — right into the path of another car traveling at a similar speed. He was killed. (RC/Colorado Springs Gazette) ...On the one hand, he was right when he said “They’ll never get me in jail!”
