Common Criminal

“They said, ‘You got a warrant.’ A warrant? A warrant for what?” recalls Carol Fulscher, 72, about the confrontation with police at her home in East Moline, Ill. The officer explained that she had not paid a citation for driving without wearing a seat belt, and he was taking her to jail. She was booked, and it took 90 minutes for her grandson to get her bailed out. “I never would’ve imagined in a million years that they would’ve arrested a 72-year-old woman,” complained Fulscher’s daughter, Jeanette Byrd. “We need to not treat them the same as you would the common criminal.” Byrd added she “was frightened to think that she was in a jail cell, with who knows who.” (RC/WQAD Moline) ...The lady from the next block, who had a long-overdue library book.
