D.I.Y.

A 4:00 a.m. fire at a Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store in Idaho Falls, Idaho, was quickly extinguished by alert employees with a fire extinguisher. But firefighters who responded to the alarm couldn’t get the store’s automatic fire sprinklers to stop dumping water inside the store. They turned off the water supply, but the sprinklers were tied together into one zone, and “with all the piping for the sprinkler system to go throughout the system, there’s hundreds of gallons of water in there,” said fire department spokesman Brad Pettingill. It all drained out after the water was turned off. The fire caused about $2,000 in damage, but the sprinklers caused $250,000 in damage. (RC/KIFI Idaho Falls) ...Consider this the next time you think a home improvement warehouse store would be good at installing sprinklers, even for your lawn.
