Dogged Determination

Police in Sandy Springs, Ga., were chasing a fleeing car. They deployed “stop sticks” to pop two of the car’s tires, but the driver would still not pull over. The driver then “struck one of the police vehicles,” a police spokesman said. “The suspect’s car was then cornered and pinned to a stop by two Sandy Springs police vehicles.” But the driver still wouldn’t get out of her car. Why? She was “in the process of trying to light what appeared to be a crack pipe.” Officers didn’t wait for her to finish: they broke the driver’s window and took Lisa Beth Solanik, 43, into custody. (RC/Atlanta Journal-Constitution) ...They could have saved a lot of trouble if they had just held out a dime bag instead of deploying stop sticks.
