Freak of Nomenclature, Vehicular Division

Homeland Security agents received a tip of a drug deal going down at a Bellingham, Wash., Pizza Hut. According to the investigator’s report, the owner of a nearby bed and breakfast pulled into the parking lot in an SUV with another passenger. They saw Jasmin Klair leave the restaurant and get into the SUV. The agents followed them to the inn. Describing Klair as “very nervous and erratic,” the agent said she admitted a gift-wrapped box found in the car was hers. Klair consented to a search inside the box: agents found nine bricks of cocaine. Klair and her two companions were jailed on charges of drug smuggling, including the owner of the B&B — the Smuggler’s Inn. The SUV bore a personalized license plate reading “SMUGGLER”. (MS/Seattle Post-Intelligencer) ...Let’s just say their future accommodations are unlikely to be quite as comfy.
Editor’s Note: In 2019, the owner of a different Smuggler’s Inn — in Blaine, Wash., where the Canadian border is behind the building — was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting illegal immigration between the U.S. and Canada. In 2021, Robert Boule, 72, was sentenced to time served, plus probation, after he pleaded guilty in a Canadian court to the charges.
