Hard-Headed

A couple drove to the Loxley, Ala., Police Department to make a report. “At first, when they said they wanted to report that they’d attempted suicide, we thought they had used sleeping pills or something along those lines,” said Lt. Doug Phillips. As the discussion continued, the officers realized that both had gunshot wounds to the head, so they called for medical assistance. The couple had agreed to the suicide pact because of “financial hardships.” The 70-year-old man shot his 65-year-old wife in the back of the head while parked in their pickup truck. He then turned the gun on himself. But when he realized neither of them were dead, he drove to the police department. The man was flown to the hospital by medical helicopter, and the woman taken by ambulance. They are both expected to survive. No criminal charges are pending. (RC/Mobile Press-Register) ...On the other hand, they can expect a $20,000 bill for the medical chopper, and about $1,000 for the ambulance, thus increasing their “financial hardships.”
