He Got Held

Jason Laperriere was taken captive over a $12,000 drug debt. He was pistol-whipped and driven around for hours by attackers who wanted to know where he lived. That, at least, was what the North Bay, Ont. Canada, man told his girlfriend, whom he did not want to know what he was really doing: he spent the time in the arms of a woman for whose favors he’d traded drugs. So the next day, he really was grabbed: by police. Three weeks later, still in jail, he called his girlfriend, wanting to resume their relationship. She declined. Prosecutor Sheila Seguin said police across Canada were alerted because of the lie, and two suspects in the made-up crime were endangered. Laperriere was sentenced to two and a half months in jail for the false alarm, and for contacting his ex-girlfriend. (AC/Canoe) ...Unlike hiring a prostitute, trying to get back with your ex is apparently not protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
