Hey Kids, What Day Is It?

“We wanted to ensure that parents and students were comfortable the first week” of school, said Waterford, Calif., School District spokeswoman Rhonda Lessel. So they waited till September 9 to tell parents that, thanks to new security rules, they would no longer be allowed to escort their children all the way to their grade-school classrooms. Waterford is one of a number of districts to establish new rules in the wake of the shootings at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School. “Unfortunately, there is a new ‘normal’ in America,” said Lessel, “and we realize that we must put in place security measures that ensure a safe learning environment for our students and staff.” (AC/Oakland Press) ...It’s always September 12th now, even when it’s September 9th.
