How Do You Plead?

When cosmetologist Susan Cole, 57, showed up as summoned for jury duty at the Denver (Colo.) District Court, she looked like a wreck: her hair was in curlers, her socks and shoes didn’t match, and “Her makeup looked like something you would wear during a theater performance,” said the court reporter. “I broke out of domestic violence in the military,” Cole told the court. “And I have a lot of repercussions. One is post-traumatic stress disorder.” She said she lived on the street, and a sympathetic Judge Anne Mansfield quickly excused her. Several months later, Cole was on a radio show in Denver, allegedly bragging about how she faked the story, and how amusing her salon clients thought her tactics were. Among the listeners to that show: Judge Mansfield, who recognized the woman from her court. Cole has been charged with perjury and attempting to influence a public servant, both felonies. Cole is the author of a book to “help you deal with difficult relationships and situations” through understanding passages from the Bible. (RC/Denver Post) ...Apparently not including the Ten Commandments.
