Howling in Protest

Erin Flynn, an author based in Cass County, Neb., who writes “gay erotic paranormal romance” novels under the name Joyee Flynn, is in a dispute with her publisher, Texas-based Siren-BookStrand (“quality erotic romance for the sophisticated reader”). Each party is suing the other over the copyright of two books. Flynn says her books Trapped and Boiled: UPAC Sagas, Freaks and Rejects No. 1 and Gideon: Resistant Omegas No. 12 are not part of the series that she is under contract to write for the publisher; she published them on her own. Siren-BookStrand says that they are part of the contract series, and therefore they hold the copyright to the books. They issued a takedown order to Amazon, where Flynn had published them, and the book giant complied. Flynn says the books feature sex with shape-shifters and werewolves. (RC/Omaha World-Herald) ...Suggestion: don’t hold the trials during a full moon.
Story Update: In 2023, I looked up Flynn’s case (Flynn v. Siren-Bookstrand, Inc., No. 4:13-CV-3160, 2013 WL 5315959 (D. Neb. Sept. 20, 2013)). As far as I can tell, the court dismissed her action on a technicality, and I did not find any further updates.
