I Smell a Rat

A woman eating at an “upscale” restaurant in Grand Chute, Wisc., said she found a dead rat in her food. It was clear that she was trying to defraud the restaurant, considering her terms: she threatened to go to the media to ruin their business unless “compensation” was paid. “Five hundred thousand dollars isn’t trying to get a quick buck,” admitted her attorney, Edmund Jelinski. “Five hundred thousand dollars is a delusion of grandeur.” Even Jelinski said the scheme was “crazy and outlandish.” Debbie Miller, 43, pleaded no contest to extortion and was sentenced to nine months in jail, plus four years on probation.
