Kelly’s Con

The Facebook page was called Victoria’s Victories, and the GoFundMe campaign raised $595 for a 3-year-old girl who’d been set upon by dogs. A post complained that a health insurer wasn’t paying for the food Victoria was getting through a pump; no one responded with money. But then came word that Victoria and her grandmother, Kelly Mullins, had been asked to leave a Kentucky Fried Chicken location because the girl’s disfigured face was distressing other customers. The story went viral: donors contributed $135,000, KFC pledged $30,000, and doctors offered free services. Then KFC figured out Kelly and Victoria had never gone to its restaurant, let alone been asked to leave. A few donors asked GoFundMe for their money back, but KFC said it would keep its promise. (AC/Laurel Leader-Call) ...So the lie ends with a Colonel of truth.
