Alabama’s Birmingham-Southern College is having to lay off 80 of its staff, reduce salaries and benefits, and shut down five subject areas to cover a $10 million budget shortfall. The problem: school officials have discovered that for some years, they have been accidentally adding Pell Grant funds to financial aid packages, rather than subtracting them. The five subject areas that will be shut down affects about 150 students, and includes accounting, computer science, dance, French, and German. (RC/Birmingham News) ...Hm: I wonder why they decided to include accounting in the cutbacks?
