New York, the Nanny State

New York’s Health Department has declared that the game “freeze tag” poses a “significant risk of injury” and should be banned at children’s summer camps in the state. And don’t even think about baseball: even the “safe” alternative of Whiffleball is on their “dangerous” list, along with kickball, dodgeball, capture the flag, and “Red Rover”. (Forget, of course, archery, scuba diving, and horseback riding.) Health Department spokeswoman Diane Mathis pointed out that Frisbee, tug of war, and sack races are listed as “safe,” and that “There will be flexibility in how the law is implemented.” (RC/New York Daily News) ...Staying in bed all day is also “safe” — at least when the kids are alone there, and don’t eat while lying down, and don’t get bed sores, and....
