Not His Usual Camera

When Roberto Xacur, who primarily lives in Mexico, discovered that some chairs and a carpet were missing from his Doral, Fla., apartment, he looked at his surveillance video and found pictures of the thieves. Neighbors recognized them as Xacur’s upstairs neighbors, Ivan Valdes, 48, and Jorge Acuna Arias, 47. Valdes argued that he thought the apartment had been abandoned, said Police Chief Rick Gomez, and while being escorted to jail charged with grand theft, Valdes offered some evidence in his defense: “I make half a million dollars and don’t need to be stealing.” Valdes, better known as Frank Cairo, is an anchor and producer of Spanish-language television.
