Firefighters in Chula Vista, Calif., were assisting crash victims when a Highway Patrol officer told them to move their vehicles out of traffic. Fire Engineer Jacob Gregoire, 36, decided to continue helping crash victims instead, so the officer handcuffed him and put him in the back of his car for half an hour. “We are in the middle of patient care with patients on the freeway and we are trying to protect our scene and they are putting him in handcuffs at this time and walking him away,” radioed another firefighter to his dispatcher. A firefighters’ union said in a statement that the fire vehicle was positioned to protect rescue workers and crash victims. A former CHP officer said it’s legal to order a firefighter to move his vehicle. (AC/KFMB San Diego) ...And once a cop gives a reckless order, he’s staked his authority on it.
