Put this Project on Ice

The Michigan Homeland Security Program provided several grants to the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission for 13 Michigan counties. Included was one snow cone machine for each county, at a total cost of $11,700. Even though only one county requested a machine, all counties received them. Why? “It is used to attract people so they can be educated and prepared for homeland security,” says WMSRDC Executive Director Sandeep Dey. “More importantly, the [homeland security officials] felt in a medical emergency the machine was capable of making ice packs which could be used for medical purposes.” Riiiiiight. Montcalm County Emergency Services Director David Feldpausch pointed out that the machine could be useful at the scene of a large fire or during very hot weather. “I don’t like the term snow cone machine, because it sounds horrible,” he said. “When you look at it as an ‘ice shaving machine’ and [considering that] purpose, it makes a little more sense.” (MS/Greenville Daily News) ...Sure, because we would never assume bureaucrats are just snowjobbing the taxpayers.
