Ratted Out

Des Moines County Sheriff’s deputies raided the Bucktail Lounge in Danville, Iowa, after receiving a tip about illegal activities there, and sure enough, they say, they found illegal gambling being sponsored by the owners. Patrons were betting on mouse races, officers say, with bets of at least a dollar per mouse per race. “We don’t consider it gambling at all, it’s just people having fun,” said bar owner Scott Beach. “If you win, you win. If you lose, you lose.” His wife, Jan, agrees: “It was to make some money for the bar and have some fun.” Yep, Scott said, agreeing back: “Mouse racing is entertainment. It’s not like they are getting ate, if you’re a loser you die. Not like that at all.” But investigators found numerous violations, including moldy food and trash on the floor, and several charges are pending against the proprietors. (JW/WQAD Moline) ...Try hiring a bunch of strippers for “entertainment” and “fun” — surely there can’t be any pesky rules about that!
