Saved by the Camera IV

Milwaukee County (Wisc.) Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Quiles, who is assigned to airport security, said he stopped at a stop sign on the way to his post, looked both ways, and pulled out — and was crashed into by a car without headlights. Quiles, who received only minor injuries, immediately started questioning the other driver, and she was arrested for drunk driving causing injuries, among other charges. Tanya Weyker, 25, couldn’t blow into the breathalyzer because her neck had been broken in four places in the crash. Her car had automatic headlights, which were on. Blood tests showed she was not drunk, and had no drugs in her system. And an airport security camera showed that Dep. Quiles, in fact, didn’t stop at the stop sign, and crashed into Weyker. Despite his minor injuries, Quiles hasn’t returned to duty, and is asking for permanent disability retirement. Once existence of the video became known he did, at least, admit he didn’t stop at the stop sign, but he was not disciplined for filing a false report. Weyker is facing medical bills exceeding a million dollars, and noted “It was a miracle I wasn’t paralyzed.” (RC/WITI Milwaukee) ...It will be a bigger miracle if there isn’t a huge lawsuit.
