School Daze

Teacher Appreciation Week in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was a time for the school district to show appreciation for teachers and school bus drivers. A package of gifts included one day to dress casually, one day to go home a half-hour early, and one day of free brownies. School Superintendent Dr. Martha Bruckner said that since bus drivers already dressed casually, and can’t leave work early, all they’d get was the brownies. So Bruckner added something to the package: vouchers for a free drink at a local bar. Parents protested. “Give them a free burger or a free drink to a local McDonald’s,” suggested one, a relative of a driver. “Don’t encourage them with alcohol.” (JW/KETV Omaha) ...Iowans can be so naive: they never suspect brownies sometimes pack a bigger punch than booze.
