Seeking Olympic Glory

“When you watch sport now, it’s all about world-beating techniques and skills,” says Yasuo Hazaki, who graduated from Japan’s Nippon Sport Science University. “But that’s not sport for all.” Hazaki wants the Olympics to add a sport where “anyone can take part, regardless of age, gender, or ability.” That’s why the 64-year-old media studies professor at Josai International University founded the Japan Hide-and-Seek Promotion Committee. The committee, which claims about a thousand members, created rules for formal competition. “It may be difficult to get hide-and-seek into the Olympics — the IOC just kicked wrestling out, and that is a sport that has been around for a long time — but I see Tokyo 2020 as our big chance,” said Hazaki.
