Seize My Car, I’ll Seize You

A Salem, Ore., business owner spotted unauthorized cars in a parking lot. A driver cursed him out and refused to move his car. So he reported the problem, and a towing company hauled three of the cars away. Then some men showed up at the towing office and tried to claim the cars without proving ownership. They were from two local police departments and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the cars were unmarked police vehicles. According to court papers, Sgt. Andrew Roberts showed his badge and said he didn’t have to show anything else. Towing workers disagreed, so they refused to release the vehicles — and that, the resulting lawsuit says, got them arrested, handcuffed, and placed in a patrol car. The towing company got them acquitted of obstructing governmental administration, but at a cost of thousands of dollars. (AC/Portland Oregonian) ...When they go to court, will the cop just show his badge?
