The Rev. Marguerite Rea, an interim priest at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Toronto, Ont., Canada, promises a certain parishioner won’t ever receive communion at the church again, even though the parishioner is entitled to wear a collar. “It is not the policy of the Anglican Church to give communion to animals,” said Bishop Patrick Yu, who oversees St. Peter’s; the priest had tried to be “welcoming” to a first-timer at the church by giving both the unnamed dog and its owner communion wafers — a “misguided gesture,” the Bishop said. “Unless there is any further evidence that she is giving communion to animals, the matter is closed,” Yu said. “We are, after all, in the forgiveness and repair business.” (RC/Toronto Star) ...Wise words, so don’t accuse the bishop of rolling over on this.
