Smile, Youre on Candid Camera!

Trevor Harwell, 20, of Fullerton, Calif., provided home computer services to Mac users while a student at Biola University. But police say he also installed spyware to give himself access to the users’ computers — and webcam. “Once he had access, he would take photographs of the users, usually women,” said Fullerton Police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich. “Often, the female victims were undressed or changing clothes.” The scheme was revealed when a man became suspicious about the messages popping up on his daughter’s computer. Example: “You should fix your internal sensor soon. If unsure what to do, try putting your laptop near hot steam for several minutes to clean the sensor.” This led many victims taking their laptops into the bathroom while taking a shower, giving Harwell an opportunity to capture more images, investigators say.
