Socially Awkward

Philadelphia, Pa., City Councilman Jim Kenney has a staff of 10 to help him (payroll: $654,034), plus a “communications consultant” on a $30,000 contract, all charged to taxpayers. But that’s still not enough: he has hired a company to post to his Twitter and Facebook “social media” accounts for him at a further cost of $28,800. “I, at 53 years old, do not have that facility,” Kenney explains, so he “needs” the service “to communicate with a group of folks who are not necessarily in my age group.” (RC/Philadelphia Daily News) ...And like most politicians, he has learned that money talks — especially when it’s ours.
