Suspiciously Superstitious

Parents in Mesa, Ariz., are upset with Mesa High School officials. Pages 40 and 41 of the school’s 255-page yearbook, Superstition, are dedicated to students who have children, or are pregnant. The spread emphasizes how difficult it is for the students to attend high school and also take care of their children. “I’m working a double shift,” confesses one student-parent in the feature. District officials are not backing Principal Jim Souder. “A yearbook is to commemorate the achievements of the students, particularly the senior class,” district spokeswoman Helen Hollands told the media. “Probably this would not fall into that category.” Some districts have banned schools from showing pregnant students in their yearbooks. (RC/Arizona Republic) ...Because we don’t want teens to know that raising kids is hard, and they might want to think about the ramifications of their choices.
