Take a Chill Pill

Three patients died under the care of Dr. Thomas Trow of Park Hill, Okla. Trow worked with rural patients in Oklahoma and Texas, and in light of his own physical ailments and the psychiatric nature of his caseload, he decided to see them via Skype, an Internet video-chat system, with the help of a traveling nurse. He provided pain treatments via Skype too. Investigators said the patients’ deaths couldn’t be blamed on Trow, but a medical board punished him anyway — for relying on Skype. Skype hasn’t been approved for telemedicine, and an investigator complained that Trow hadn’t conducted initial evaluations in person. Trow was banned from prescribing certain drugs until he takes a course on prescribing. (AC/Oklahoma City Oklahoman) ...What’s wrong with Skype? That non-NSA spies may be able to listen in?
