Take Out the Trash

After a bank robbery in Syracuse, N.Y., police tracked the suspect to a nearby apartment house. As they searched the building, a worker inside pointed them to the basement: he could hear someone calling for help. Police say the robber, Robin Gutheridge, had tried to escape by climbing into a garbage chute — on the building’s 21st floor. Gutheridge, 26, was found in the basement, next to a trash compactor, surrounded by scattered cash from the robbery. Officers called firefighters in to rescue him. He is hospitalized in critical condition, and will be charged with robbery when he gets out of the hospital. (RC/Syracuse Post-Standard) ...Or, more accurately, if he gets out of the hospital.
