That’s Methed Up

Many people try to smuggle methamphetamine through the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in San Diego, Calif., sometimes by dissolving it in water and disguising it in juice bottles. So an inspector was suspicious of a couple of bottles Cruz Marcelino Velazquez had with him. Velazquez, a 16-year-old from Tijuana, tried to allay suspicions by taking “a big sip,” according to an official report. His attempt failed, and he was handcuffed in a security office. Then he began screaming. “My heart! My heart!” he yelled in Spanish. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s report says Velazquez died from drinking the liquid — highly concentrated methamphetamine. (AC/AP) ...If he’d used his head, he wouldn’t have had to scream about his heart.
