The Issue is Balls

“We want our balls back! We want our balls back!” chanted students after storming the playground fence at Earl Beatty Public School in Toronto, Ont., Canada. Their school administration, apparently afraid after “a few serious incidents” in which balls came close to or hit people, had banned all balls except sponge balls. Supervisors tried to silence the students and drive them away from the reporters on the other side of the fence, but the students persisted in their protest throughout their lunch break. Konstantina Alexiou, 13, explained that teachers were displeased that the students, nearly 100 of whom signed her petition against the rule, had gotten public attention for their cause. “I don’t think they should hide it and not let it be an issue,” she said. “Because it is an issue for the kids.” (AC/Toronto Star) ...The kids still have more balls than the school’s administrators.
