The One that Got Away

The 52nd annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament, off North Carolina, is over. Everyone was sure that Andy Thomossan’s record-breaking catch — an 883-pound blue marlin — would win it, but Thomossan’s boat was disqualified. “We didn’t do anything wrong,” Thomossan said. “But one of our people did. He failed to get a fishing license,” which would have cost $15. “He told us he had it. He didn’t.” A license is required. Thus the record didn’t count, the team was booted out of first place, and they didn’t get the prize — $912,825.
