They Keep Us Safe

A charity hockey game in Nassau County, N.Y., was tied at 3–3 in the second period. Two players were fighting, and referees tried to stop them. Then the benches cleared. “All of a sudden an all-out war just broke out” among the players, said one of the fans. The teams: the police and fire departments of nearby New York City. The fight and the ensuing cleanup interrupted the game for 25 minutes. By the end, New York’s Finest (the police) beat (not literally this time) New York’s Bravest (the firefighters) 8–5. (AC/WNYW New York, WCBS New York) ...Now they get to play New York’s Strongest (the garbagemen) and New York’s Boldest (corrections officers) for the title of New York’s Rowdiest.
