Throw Out the Baby, No Bathwater

Matthew Sordiff, 21, and Brianne Baird were shopping in Somersworth, N.H., and allegedly worked together to put about $25 worth of baby items in a diaper bag, which Sordiff then carried out of the store. When a store employee challenged Sordiff outside the store, he removed their 3-month-old daughter from her stroller, put her in a car seat on the ground, and then fled — without his daughter. Sordiff was caught and arrested along with Baird, the baby’s mother. “My son is a very good father,” said Sordiff’s mother, Carla Bickford. “Matt got scared and he ran because he thought he had warrants he never took care of.” She pointed out that her son has no criminal record. But police say Sordiff does have a prior for failure to appear — and a conviction for strangulation. (MS/Foster’s Daily Democrat) ...Which, sadly, has put his nomination for father of the year on hold.
