Time Out

Napier Community Primary School in Gillingham, England, allowed a man to pick up his 6-year-old granddaughter to take the girl to a doctor’s appointment. The doctor prescribed acetaminophen and the man took the girl back to school. There’s only one problem: the school called the wrong girl to the office, the girl didn’t say anything about being taken away by a stranger, and the grandfather didn’t even notice the girl wasn’t his granddaughter, in part because the girl had the same first name. The clanger only came to light when the girl showed her parents the drug the doctor gave her, and they wanted to know why she had seen a doctor. Gillingham MP Rehman Christi praised the school for “implementing enhanced safety procedures” while it investigates the lapse, and noted “This incident could happen at any school around the country.” (RC/BBC) ...Yet only one school in the country is implementing enhanced safety procedures.
