Vote for Me

Regina Hill, 48, is running for the District 5 seat on the Orlando (Fla.) City Council. She says her past makes her more qualified than four-term incumbent Daisy Lynum to represent the district, which is struggling with high levels of crime, unemployment, and homelessness. That “past” is revealed in her rap sheet, which includes 21 arrests for charges including drug offenses, DUIs, and writing bad checks, the Orlando Sentinel reports. She received clemency five years ago, which is the only reason Hill can run for office as a convicted felon. Hill sees the focus on her criminal past as a distraction. “My work speaks for me, not my past. I’m doing great things in District 5” she said. “This is nothing but a smear campaign.” At least some voters are backing her. “She’s paid for the crimes in her past, and she wants to serve the people,” one resident said. (MS/Orlando Sentinel) ...Hill already has served the people — by sitting in jail.
Story Update: Hill was not only elected, but when her term was up, she was re-elected.
