What’s Wrong with Angry Female Dogs?

Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery has released many interesting brews, including “Doggie Style” and “In Heat Wheat”. But the Michigan Liquor Control Commission is drawing the line and refusing to allow them to sell their 20th Anniversary beer, “Raging Bitch”. The Commission especially objects the wording on the label: “Remember, enjoying a Raging Bitch, unleashed, untamed, unbridled — and in heat — is pure GONZO”, which was deemed to be “detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of the general public.” Commissioner Patrick Gagliardi says the board is not adverse to edgy writing, but “we do have a responsibility here to place product in a public place with the names that are on it.” Flying Dog, of course, is suing on free speech grounds. (MS/Grand Rapids Press) ...Customers throughout the state are panting with excitement in anticipation of the ruling.
Story Update: In 2015, Flying Dog prevailed in their suit. A federal court rejected the Michigan Liquor Control Commission’s claim that such a name was “detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of the general public.”
