What Time Is It?

Colorado’s legalization of marijuana has had some unintended consequences. Stoners are stealing the 420 mile marker sign on Interstate 70, which is in the rural plains well east of Denver. It’s happened so many times, state highway officials decided to put a stop to it. “So this is our way to test it out. So far it’s working,” said Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Amy Ford. “It’s a traffic safety thing. It’s a helpful thing to have these signs on the road. But people kept ripping them off.” Their solution: since “420” is code for smoking marijuana, the state replaced the 420 mile marker with one that reads 419.99. Highway officials say the sign for mile marker 69, in the rural mountains well west of Denver, was frequently stolen “in the past.” (MS/KUSA Denver) ...With the stoners so preoccupied with 420, they apparently no longer care about 69.
