When You Play with Fire, You May Get Burned

To help pay off the $8,000 he owed on his Cadillac, Kareem Spence, 35, torched the car to collect the insurance money. Naturally, once investigators found gasoline-soaked towels in the trunk, they suspected arson and arrested Spence at the East Orange, N.J., police headquarters. Spence was a police officer at the department for four years, but he was suspended, and later resigned, after his arrest. He pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and faces up to five years in prison.
