Wisdom Comes with Age

It all started when Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Fla., declined to renew the contract for its headmaster. Patrick Snay, who is in his mid-60s, filed a claim for age discrimination, and for retaliation against his daughter, Dana, who attended the school. The case was settled for $10,000 in back wages, $60,000 for the attorneys, and $80,000 to Snay. It also included a confidentiality clause forbidding Snay and his wife from disclosing the “terms and existence” of the agreement. But Snay told his daughter about it. “We knew what the restrictions were, yet we needed to tell her something,” he said. “Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver,” she posted on Facebook. “Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT.” The post, seen by Dana’s 1,200 Facebook friends, eventually made its way to Gulliver’s attorneys, who then notified Snay that he had violated the confidentiality clause and would not be receiving the $80,000. The case is being appealed. (MS/Miami Herald) ...After all, she only told her 1,200 closest friends.
Story Note: I searched in 2024 to see if there were any updates regarding the appeal, but losing the settlement seems to be the last word.
