“Dead” Beat Dad
John McCroy Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisc., also known by his rap name “Mr. Jakitdown”, was ordered to pay $100 a month in child support for the last five years. But he was killed in a car accident seven months after the order — or that’s what he claimed. “I was ineligible to pay it,” McCroy said in an interview. “I was in a hospital and died in a car accident.” But there was a discrepancy: “We found photos dating back to ... less than three months after his accident, which showed the defendant partying in night clubs,” prosecutors told a judge. They found Mr. Jakitdown’s posting on social media, flashing money and showing off his new car, mink coat, and diamond jewelry. McCroy claimed to have earned the money selling a rap mix tape ...which is available via free online download. McCroy pleaded guilty to two charges of felony failure to pay child support. Despite paying more than $10,000 to catch up on his obligations last month, this month he was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation. (MS/WITI Milwaukee) ...Now he can work on his new career as a blues singer.Original Publication Date: 26 April 2015
