A Prime Photo
As a bride walked down the aisle on a Tofino, B.C., Canada, beach, a bare-chested man with a surfboard stood aside. It was Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, who had stumbled across the wedding during his vacation. The wedding photographer caught a couple of pictures of the bride processing past him. Marnie Recker’s photographs got media attention. One also got the attention of the opposition Conservative Party, which used it in an ad: “Canada lost 110,000 jobs recently. And the prime minister is still on vacation.” Recker’s response: Cease and desist. “For a national political party to take my photo, which is clearly watermarked, blow it up so the watermark isn’t visible, and use it in this way is unlawful.” She also hired a lawyer. The Tories canceled the ad. (AC/CBC) ...It wasn’t the politicians’ moment, but at least Trudeau didn’t have to be told.Original Publication Date: 21 August 2016
