Chucked Out

William Bullock’s name is not on the lease for the apartment where he was staying, said a Central, S.C., landlord named Chuck, and guests are only allowed for a week. So Chuck said if Bullock didn’t leave, he might press charges, and the actual tenant — Bullock’s wife, Lily — could face a 100 percent increase in her rent. Lily is a student at nearby Clemson University; she had given birth just two weeks earlier and was dealing with finals. William is a soldier stationed in Missouri. He said they would go visit family after finals, but he had concerns about what would happen to Lily when his leave expired.
