Dirty is the New Clean

The Albany Park Neighbors group in Chicago, Ill., presents its monthly “Block Star Business” award to businesses that do their part to keep the neighborhood clean and presentable. “This effort helps our group of residents recognize and champion local businesses who are going above and beyond in the fight against litter,” the group’s website says, “while also providing great customer service and going the extra mile for our community.” Some residents complained, though, when it announced the Admiral Theater as its latest recipient, primarily because of the entertainment provided by the theater: cabaret-style with ...um... poles. “Really?!” one critic said. “This business has to go! ... It simply attracts the wrong crowd into the neighborhood.” The group’s leaders, however, pointed out that the businesses are nominated and voted on by the neighborhood’s residents. Most responses to the award were positive, with even critics having to acknowledge that the Admiral’s exterior was cleaner than nearby stores. (MS/Chicago Tribune) ...It’s because the employees only wear the “bare necessities.”
